May 2001 Newsletter
Cart Paths
The hardworking volunteers are back at it. On Wednesday May 2nd,
work commenced on the cart path for hole #7. I know that we are all
grateful for these concrete cart paths, especially on those hot and dusty
summer days.
This weather dependent work cannot be scheduled far in advance.
So, plans are usually announced on Tuesday at Men’s League. If a sufficient
number of volunteers step forward, the work is usually done on Wednesday
morning.
Keep it up guys. Your help is much appreciated by everyone!!!
Soar with the Eagles
Our members are starting to make this eagle business look easy.
On Tuesday April 10th during Men’s League play Jeremy Neidnagel scored
an eagle on #6.
Then on Sunday April 22nd Bob Matyska scored an eagle
on #9. This gave him a one stroke victory over his competition for that day.
Possibly they weren’t quite so thrilled about the eagle as Bob was.
And Bill Barns scored an eagle , while playing with a group of the
guys on Thursday May 10th at Deer Lake in Springfield . Len Ahrnsbrak,
with a birdie on the hole, graciously conceded the skin.
Congratulations Jeremy, Bob, and Bill!!
Garage Sale Results
The Garage Sale held on April 28th brought in over $600.
We thank all of you who donated items, bought items, worked to prepare
and price the items, and worked at the sale. Warren requested a special
thank you to:
Jackie Hoff
Wanda Housteau
Judy Jones
Rita Nichols
Ethel Matyska
Open House
Sunday June 24th Noon to 3:00 PM
The Membership Committee is planing to host an Open House on
Sunday June 24th. The general public will be invited to come out
and see the Club. There will be a special effort to appeal to local people
who have played little or no golf, but have a curiosity about the game,
Hosts will show visitors around and possibly hit a few balls with them.
Plans are to also have a few demonstrations of the basics of the game.
The committee will be looking for help for this event.
If you would be willing to be there to help host the visitors in this
effort to attract new golfers, please let Committee Chairman
Don Newton know.
Thank you
- to the Ladies’ Leagues and all of those who provided the flowers
and labor to place live plants in the baskets at the tees and around the
club house.
- to Leroy Allen and Vickie Adair for the new decoration in the circle
by the little bridge. Please don’t walk on the pretty rocks.
- Glen McAndless and all of the aluminum can donors for providing the
new mulch around our trees.
- Len Ahrnsbrak for organizing a work group to maintain the sand trap on
# 1. Sand trap workers include:
Len Anrnsbrak
Ron Beard
Don Gilmore
Don Newton
We hope your sand trap experience will now be more enjoyable.
Remember to rake your tracks.
- One risk of putting thank you notes in the newsletter is that we
always miss thanking many others deserving our thanks. To those of
you whom we have missed, our apologies, and thank you for all that you
have done.
Member/Guest Day September
The Membership Committee is also planning to repeat last years very
successful Member/Guest Day. This day is specifically targeted toward
friends of our members who are good candidates for possible membership
in the Club. More details will follow as this date approaches.
And the committee will need your help again on this event.
Please be thinking about who you know who might be a candidate to invite.
Food Service Discussions
The most frequent comment on last falls Member Opinion Survey
was the desire for food service at the Club. The Board of Directors has
had several discussions about possible ways to accommodate this need,
without incurring a significant financial risk for the Club.
Several ideas are being investigated. We cannot promise anything at
this point, but we want you to know that we are trying our best to come up
with a solution.
Need help with your game?
Doug Landsdown, Lutie golf coach, has agreed to provide basic instructions
on the game. Starting later in May, he will be offering instructions on
Thursday evenings before Ladies’ League. He can accommodate two people
at a time. If you are interested in getting some help with your game,
check in the Club House for the sign up sheet.
